You’re more powerful than you could ever imagine
The Dead Bitches Brunch #carriechallenge means so much more to us than buckets of blood. It means standing up against these monstrous, barbaric cowards (that’s putting it nicely) who hide behind religion while mentally, physically & sexually manipulating and abusing human beings. We are mournful & irate and you should be too. Stand up & get bloody with us to raise awareness for these unfortunate victims!

WHAT THE CARRIE CHALLENGE MEANS TO ME…
We came up with the idea of doing the Carrie Challenge while brainstorming ideas for our live stream show “Dead Bitches Brunch” in celebration of Stephen King’s birthday. At first, it didn’t have a cause attached to it. It was just something we thought would be fun to do–dumping buckets of blood over our heads to celebrate the King and kick off the beginning of the Season of the Witch. We had talked about adding a cause behind it, but it had to be something that I cared for and believed in. As a victim and survivor of religious abuse from the cult I was raised in, I’ve blocked out trauma. I told myself the abuse wasn’t that bad and they didn’t mean it “that way”. But as time went by I faced the darkness of my past and began to heal. I couldn’t ignore it. I couldn’t ignore the pain and trauma I saw in the eyes and lives of other survivors. Many of whom were only able to escape after years of being abused by religious men and women in the name of Jesus Christ and the church. Too many predators hide behind religious organizations to abuse and control others. To what gains? For some it’s financial, for others it’s the perfect hunting ground to run unchecked and prey on the innocent.
When most people think of cults they think of the extreme ones: Jim Jones, Charles Manson, and Heaven’s Gate. However, these same systems are being used and abused by Christian extremists all across the country. The control and fear they have placed on us is bullshit. I’ve woken up, and I’m done being a victim. It was time to be honest with myself, and my past, and fight back. And thus the Carrie Challenge found a cause. I had to face the story of Carrie White and that it was a partial reflection of my own life. Controlled, subdued, and sheltered from the world and the realities of others. Not an exciting adventure, not a romantic saga, a horror movie… this reminded me of my childhood. Now it’s my turn to harness my power. To break the silence, raise awareness, and stand up. To call the “church” I was raised in by its true name, a cult. And for anyone else out there who is tired of being controlled, you are not alone. Take back your power, take back your happiness. It was not your fault. You are not the problem.
The Carrie Challenge reminded me that I am one bad bitch. And I hope if anything comes out of this, that maybe I can help a few more bad bitches wake up too.

Lydzy B
